Welcome to My New Earth Sciences Blog
Earth From Space and my Ecological Footprint
- earth from space
- This documentary discusses the process of recording and tracking Earth’s processes.
- Scientists track the layers of Earth via satellite
- There are so many aspects of the Earth that we as human are not able to see, and by using satellites we are able to understand processes like: earthquakes, volcanoes, how oxygen travels through water systems and plankton, and icecaps
- For me this documentary really stressed how every single part of the Earth is connected. I always remember hearing about the butterfly effect, and for these systems that is really true
- The most interesting thing that I learned from this video was that the oceans off of the coast of Africa cause hurricane Katrina
- I would love to learn more about the Amazon and how the oxygen there travels
- My ecological footprint
- Through this exercise I found out that if everyone lived like me we would need 2.4 Earths.
- My biggest categories for improvement are my carbon consumption and cropland animals
- I found that my biggest issue with carbon consumption was not actually from driving as I thought, but more because I buy new clothes and shoes regularly
- Some of my solutions for this issue
- Shop at Goodwill and more Thrift shops
- shop from places that are environmentally aware
- meatless fridays
- checking the sources of my food and trying to find locally sourced sustenance
- less single use plastic

- First and foremost, Leo, what a mans
- I thought it was really interesting how he discussed what got him interested in the environment as a child when he would go to museums and see how people used to live
- I think the most impactful visual from the documentary was the rushing waters in Greenland. When the Geologist warned DiCaprio not to get too close to the edge, it was one of the most beautiful and terrifying bodies of water I have ever seen
- I was blown away by the difference in the darkening of snow due to fossil fuels and forest fires in the area
- The part of the documentary that frustrated me the most was the discussion about corporate interests in climate change
- the documentary discussed how quickly misinformation is spread by the corporate agendas
- these lawmakers, newspapers, and tv networks try to discredit science lol
- I found it a really important aspect to address the intersectionality of socioeconomic status and climate change
- the documentary covered this topic when they visited India and discussed how poorer villages can only use coal as energy because they don’t have access to any other method and coal is extremely cheap
- First and foremost, Leo, what a mans
